Runway shows have evolved introducing a range of art forms (sound, sculpture, etc) into one. Now exhibiting more than purely fashion designs, runway shows are becoming more inventive and theatrical than ever. Fashion pioneers such as Chanel never fail to thrill consistently putting on an amazing 'show'. Take their recent runway show at the Grand Palais for example, they constructed an enormous life size luxury cruise ship complete with water, stars in the night sky, and even a on board piano bar! Just last week Moschino put on an elaborate circus show to exhibit their SS19 collection. They hosted the show inside a circus tent and even had an acrobat to close the show. Jeremy Scott, of course this was you!

Putting on an elaborate memorable show it essentially a dramatic form of advertisement for the brands. The shows differentiates one collection from the next. As a variety of artistic platforms come together within a show, and fashion and music are often closely identified anyway, the soundtrack to a runway show can have a huge influence on the collection.

Graduate Fashion Week, an annual event held in London, exhibits over twenty national and international university graduates' final collections. The event has grown over the years becoming more and more impressive with time. The graduate's exhibits are highly creative, super imaginative and refreshingly alternative. The students who put on the runway shows are more in touch with music than ever. This year's tracks were not only very cool, but complimented their collections flawlessly. The music really enhanced each collection, embodying a personality, attitude and set the scene, envisioning the designer's concept. The designers chose very appropriate music which worked seamlessly with their collections, bringing their designs to life.

Eleanor Drane for Nottingham Trent

Soundtrack: Kiara by Bonobo

IG Handle: @elliedraneknitwear

Trendy and elegant. Drane's forward facing collection captures a sports luxe aesthetic. Her use of colour blocking, zips and platform trainers are easy going yet incredibly stylish. Bonobo's incredibly climatic Kiara sits well with this collection. The electro-string combo is very elegant complimenting the pure white dark navy block knit collection. The songs is very naturalistic. Drane's white and black monotone zip top jumper evokes a sublime snowy mountain. This earthy alliance is absolutely divine.

Amber Osgood for Nottingham Trent University

Soundtrack: Black Skinhead by Kanye West

IG Handle: @amberodesigns

Kanye's Black Skinhead has a monotone palette (see video). Osgood's collection combines this simple yet affective palette with a touch of burgundy. This fast paced rap song is fast and fiery just like the collection it is played alongside.

Hannah Gibbins for the University of Brighton

Soundtrack: Indigo by Gui Boratto

IG Handle: @hcfgibbins_designs

Easy going, warm and at ease. This could be said for Gibbin's woven basket, cornfield inspired suits and Gui Boratto's Indigo alike.

Chloe Roberts for Nottingham Trent University

Soundtrack: Porcelain by Moby (Arty Remix)

IG Handle: @chloejeanknit

A gorgeous modern knit collection created in chic shapes and bold but not too bright colours. The Porcelain remix is a beautiful feminine sounding track which perfectly embodies the modern female knitwear collection. Both the song and the collection take a contemporary spin on a classic.

Lauren beamer for Nottingham Trent University

Soundtrack: Kill V Maim by Grimes

IG Handle: @labeamknitwear

Both the music and collection are bright, bold and girly. An unusual knit collection which really thought outside of the box, the same goes to Grimes' unique and bubbly sounds.

All Images have been taken from Instagram accounts as shown above (Except Amber Osgood's Collection which is my own). Videos all taken from Youtube. Graduate Fashion Week was held at the Old Truman Brewery, Shoreditch from the 3rd - 6th June 2018.
