Modernisation of the Corset

Following the popularisation of underwear as outerwear, corsets have been gradually appearing on the runways and high streets. The corset dress has been revitalised, a modern spin has been placed upon the garment making it appropriate for outerwear and of course becoming extremely stylish. While the Kardashians may have started this new obsession (Kylie and Kim in particular), the trend has been debuted by multiple celebrities in a range of unique ways. The corset has been sported mainly over a slip dress or sweater, but can be worn in a variety of ways. If you are anything like me (or the Kardashians for instance) and have an hour glass body shape, you will understand the slip dress is not the most flattering choice for someone with a smaller waist and a curvaceous bust. The new corset craze however allows for the slip dress to be worn, accentuating the female form by outlining a small waistline, rather than drowning any feminine features you may posses.

Eager to try this trend out myself I purchased a corset from Asos, pairing it with a longline t-shirt, some 90's oval sunglasses and a pair of gold sandals. I absolutely loved this look, it was edgy, flattering and mixed the 90's with the present day (my natural perm-esque hair also unintentionally aided this element of the look). I did however find the corset moved a lot as I did and didn't want to stay put, as you can see from the full length image I struggled to get the corset perfectly into place. I imagine this is simply due to this corsets design and shouldn't steer you away from the garment!
