Deconstructed Shirts

If anyone has been keeping up with my Instagram (@chlolawrenc) over the past few weeks they'll know for sure my current weakness/favourite trend: deconstructed shirts. Having steadily been flowing into high street stores since late last summer, the deconstructed shirt allows for an edgy yet carefully put together look. The shirts come in a range of designs, shapes and styles and can be worn in so many different ways! Without seeming overly obsessed I can say I own a good 4 deconstructed shirts, finding my love for them after seeing a post of a woman featured in a street style image from NYFW last summer, photographed by Diego Zuko for Harper's Bazaar as featured below. I aim to show you how I like to style this unique style of shirt in a range of different ways.

Sexy: My first attempt to style a deconstructed shirt was very Kourtney Kardashian inspired. I purposely bought an oversized silky leopard blouse from Topshop over the winter in order to wear off my shoulders. The shirt is a pyjama style, purchased during the pyjamas for street wear trend, giving it a comfortable relaxed look, however still seemingly classy and stylish due to the black piping, buttons and silky material. I decided to unbutton the top few buttons allowing the shirt to sit around my shoulders. Admittedly I did have to pin the shirt together as there wasn't a button in the desired spot however the pin was pretty discreet. I paired the shirt with my white Zara denim skirt and a prettylittlething necklace. The denim gave the silky shirt a more rugged look and black and gold accessories are my go to! I would pair this with a pair of barley there black heeled sandals.

Chic: From my humble collection of deconstructed shirts this shirt is my absolute favourite. It was an absolute nightmare to buy (Missguided sold out and I bought from a dogey Depop seller) however it was so worth the stress. This particular shirt has only one sleeve in a balloon style with a very flattering tie waist. The colour and pattern is very modest and reminds me of an office shirt keeping a slight sense of formality, however has edge due to the style. This combination therefore creates a very chic style shirt. I have styled this shirt with a Zara A-line denim skirt and gold barely there heeled sandals (again I'm sorry my shoes aren't to be seen). This particular shirt is also available in black and white from Missguided.

Casual: These shirts are incredibly versatile and can be dressed up or down. Flannel shirts in this instance are particularly good for a more laid-back approach. I made an on the spot last minute purchase of a flannel Topman shirt the day before a festival last year, little did I know the significance this shirt would find within my wardrobe. Similarly to the leopard shirt I undid the top few buttons to allow this shirt of fall over my shoulders and pinned it once again to fit. This time however I chose to wear a pair of navy peg leg trousers from Topshop, my white adidas sneakers and a toyshop choker just to give my outfit a bit of glam. This outfit was really comfortable, looked completely effortless but at the same time super stylish.

Edgy: My final deconstructed shirt is very similar to the image I originally found inspiration within. The shirt is from boohoo.com and is very simple however again very versatile and can be styled in may ways. The shirt is bardot style with black and white stripes. I have again chosen to style this particular shirt with a denim skirt from Zara, however this would look really great with wide leg trousers. This shirt would also look good pocking out the bottom of the denim skirt. As a side not on the, my legs hasn't seen the sun for a good two years so please excuse how ghastly pale they look.
