The fusion of art and science has always been an endearing concept. Both providing complex concepts in two completely different realms proves to be not only fascinating, but also quite mind blowing. Although art and science initially appear to be placed at opposite ends of the creativity and technological spectrums, due to the results of practise, the investigation into their methods prove there are significant similarities.
Science and art both make significant contributions to society and culture. The Future Starts Here, as sponsored by Volkswagen, aims to explore the innovation of technology and its driving source of inspiration.
The Future Starts Here, on display at The V&A until the start of November, investigates objects of the near future. With the near future completely unknown (think Brexit, Donald Trump, environmental issues, and the general wreck of the society we reside in) this exhibition promises hopeful stability among uncertainty. With a range of emerging technological advancements set to alter the way we live, the objects on display within this exhibition either newly released or still in production, provide a taste of what is to come.
The V&A explores four key factors within the exhibition; self, public, planet and afterlife, and the relationship these factors have with the advancements of technology. With all four matters relating to at least one current news headline (social media, the migrant crisis, veganism and the murder of Jamal Khashoggi), the matters are prevalent, but their outcomes are yet to be established.
The future and the unknown are relatively daunting. Guided by ethical questions, the promise of science and technology and an alluring display, the V&A curate an ephemeral comfort to what is yet to come.

The Future Starts Here is on display at The V&A located in Knightsbridge until 4th November 2018. Tickets cost £16 and can be purchased from The V&A's website.
